TO THE Electors of tho Goldfields IN TIE nUN'oTAT DISTRICT. GENTLEMEN, —The requisition from JT so many itiflneiitijil inhabitants in the )anstan District lias induced me to plains try services at your disposal, and should T lave the honor to bo, returned as your re>resentative in the' Provincial Council, I ilinll endeavour to retain that confidence ■ou so kindly placed in me. It will always Lc my desire .to further he progress of the Goldfields, and see that i fair distribution of the "public funds lc spent in opening up the country and cle /eloping its mineral resources. It is absolutely necessary that the Coldlelds should have representatives whose interests are identical with those of the miners, so that their wants, may be made known and understood. I can claim to 1 e one of those interested, and I shall use my utmost endeavors to cheek the abominable taxation which' is year by year being heaped upon the mining community directly and indirectly. Believe me, Gentlemen, if I am returned shall never rest until 1 see the duty, on gold removed or considerably reduced, for 1 consider it a most unjust tax on industry greatest hardships to open up a portion of the country, which otherwise would be barren and unprofitable. 'i he agricultural interest I should like to see advance more rapidly on the Goldfields, and the only way to attain that object is to give easy access to the lands. I am ;:o far liberal on the Land Question that, had I the giving away "of the country I would give it to the "bona fide'' small settlers. Previous to the nomination I shall personally explain my views on other matters connected with the Gold-fields, and the advancement of the country general!v. YV.
