The chairman put the motion and amendment to the meeti g and it wa doubtful which ws carried. On accoun' of the co fusion which prevailed, your reporter thinks the motion was carried. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) Alexandra, 28th February, 1867. •I have* not any great accounts to give yov under the head of mining. For the past thre? or four weeks, that branch of industry ha 3 bier seriously impeded by a succession of disasters, caused by the almostunparalellcd storms of rain and wind that have visited this locality lately ; at a great cost of labor and capital, the repairs to the races on the north beach, of the Manuherikia are at la'st complete.!, and I am happy to say, the many hands that were thrown out of employment are again occupied in extracting from the natural bed, the glittering metal. The last accident occured on Saturday last to the high flaming of the R >se, .Shamrock and Thistle Race, better known sis " Chappel's ;" it appears, that to repair a break on the race, the w.itir was turned off above the fluming, and whilst the bo\ea were empty, ths wind which was blowing furiously at the time, lifted about 100 feet of then o.T the supports ; to repair the damage, it is «jti.nat?d ?I'.K) at lc.st will bo repaired. Thu aeeiJeTil! is to be much regretted, as the Oimpauy have boon struggling for a very long line and -~ n > ordinary difficulties, and can ill .a(T.)-.i the loss of time and money the accident will entail. On the Frenchman's B-.:ach, great activity is observable ; a great number of men j being engaged in stripping in readiness for the winter, when the Molyncux will be at a low level. Watson and party at Butcher's Point »3 also the claimholden on the different points and beaches of the Molyncux from there up to Mutton Town Creek are all working with great spirit and energy ; excepting a complaint of the scarcity of water, which is pretty universal, not a wjrd of discontent greets one's car. Whether it is thit the miner is consent with smaller earnings than formerly, or that they are doing really first rate, I will not attempt to say, but I must confess, that a spirit of contentment prevails among nearly all, The Manuherikia Coal Pit is again in work, Messrs M 'Donald and M'Keemau, who have purchased it, from tho widow of the late G. Telford, inform me they are highly pleased with their bargain, and say that they have as good coal a3 any in the district. The proposed visit of his Excellency the Governor, Sir George Grey, is causing some stir. A committee has been formed to arrange a suitable reception. Ido not suppose that Alexandre will eclipse Clyde, but whatever i 3 set about in that direction, undoubtedly will bo carried through in right good style. I cannot close thi3 communication without a passing word on the untimely death of Mrs Duncan M 'Donald, the wife of one of our oldest and most respected residents ; she expired at Balmoral, on the 21st. irlt., and was interred at the Clyde Cemctry, on ■the following Saturday, her remains being followed to the grave, a distance of ten miles by a most numerous cortege, every available vehich la tho district being engaged for the occasion. ] should say that the followers numbered between seventy and eighty.
