NEVIS.
FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.
Feb. 4th 1867. There is consider able activity in mining matters here at present, and thbse pa ties, who have washed up, since the Christmas holidrys have had excellent returns. At Whitton's Creek, the miners are e. "ually busy, but complain of a scarcity of Water. M'Rone and party, conjointly, With Stratford and party, have just completed their splendid head race, which convfys water from Commissioner's Creek, to the Township Terrade, where they have been fortunate enough in securing claims on the fancy ground, the terrace now referred to, is now the scene of much bustle, as all the claims are in full working order. I have to report numerous arrivals from he Canterbury Goleltjelds; they aie mostly old Nevis hands, who return to the scenes of their former labours, if not richer, wiser men.
Greae indignation is felt here, against the Postal authorities, for having deprived us of the benefit of the usual weekly mail; we are now obliged to content ourselves with a fortnightly one instead, all .orsooth because it saves i'r Hall, the magnificent sum of £3O a year :—Verily New Zealand is blest with a chease paring Govern meat.
