CROMWELL TOWN-COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council took place on Monday the 23th Jan., at half past eight o' clock. Present, W. J. Barry Mayor, and the full Council. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed. Tho Town Clerk read a letter from the Provincial Secretary, informing the Council, that a plan of the Municipality, on an enlarged scale, shewing the boundaries of tho Wards, had been forwarded to the Mayor. A letter was also read from tho Snperintcn dent, informing tho Council of -the intended visit of his Excellency, tho Governor, to Otago and the probability of his visiting the up country Municipalities, of which the Corporation will bo duly advised. A letter was read from Mr E. Brown, anent the Town Hall difficulty. The application of Messrs Marsh and Goodger were taken into consideration. Mr Marsh informed the Council, that his application was made on behalf of Mr C. Zcile, of Clyde, and fn consequence of the delay in considering the application, Mr Zeilu declined to proceed any further in the matter, consequently he, Mr Marsh withdrew the application. Mr Goodger'e application was then considered. It appeared thaa a part of the Junction Hotel, occupied about nino feet tf the Municipal reserve. Tho application being for twenty five feet, inclusive of the froc. tage already occupied, Proposed by Councillor Marsh—"That the yearly rental of the land applied for by Mr Goodgcr, bo eight shillings per foot, and that Mr Goodger bo written to, informing him of tho terms, and that no building will be allowed to be erected upon tho public, thoroughfare, Seconded by Councillor Hethcrington and carried. PropoGcd by Councillor Marsh—"That Mr Beedy, the Town Surveyor, be written to, giv-
•ing him power to expend the sum of £IOB upon the formation and metaling of Melmore Street." Seconded by Councillor Kidd.
Amendments—Proposed by Councillor Whet, ter—"That Mr Bee3ly be requested to me:t the Public Works Committee, relative to the formation and metaling of Melmore Street. „ Seconded by Councillor Hetherington. The original motion was carried by the casting vote of the Mayor. In reference to the letter of Mr It. Brown previously read. Councillor Marsh proposed, that it be consigned to the waste paper basket. Proposed by Councillor Whetter—"That the letter of Mr R. Brown, be considered at the next meeting of Council." Seconded by Councillor Kidd and carried. The usual vote to'the Chair closed the pro- ■ ceedings,
