"TOMBOY" ON THE DUNSTAN JOCKEY CLUB MEETING, 1866.
The 27th, 28th, and 29th, clays of December will be long remembered by all who witnessed the racing at the Dunstau . Course, and all praise is due to the Uowi mittee, stewards aad liiee-uearcrs, lur i the manner in which the arrangements . were made and carried out, and nothing i could be more satisfactory to them than . the result. There was no gruuiohug, no protests, but toaii, equal sausiaciiou was 1 given, and as justly appreciai cd. f Ihe Alaiden i ia.:.e oniy brought three | s horses to the post, and it who evident tuat r Aiiouder would ho he winner; yet, Uioiud Allmder and Arabian nn-co in itSuV, iii ecpial condition, uio latter tauij'Uuniu i. Tae former is a mce Litis wen-wr-vd colt, but too Weedy, aiiutau aaivcv cany wu u u& 1 forage.
For the Publicans' Purse, five horses came to the po3t, 1 ambler being the favorite, but the result proved that he was too tine in fact, so much so, as liis antagonist, choolboy was too thick. 'I he race was Won by a duke, by kionian, a wellknown horse from the Teviot - a good and game little hor ,e, but not in my opinion, a race-horse. cuoolboy should have won it, but he held the davk horse too cheap, and when c died upon, did not appreciate tue manners or persuasive powers of Uallagiun. he Hurdle-Race was won by the favorite Garry Owen, who was iu splendid .condition, aud well-ridden by Prince; live others also started, but the race was from first to last, (iarry < iwens. Faughaballagh is a line colt, and if in conditio , is lit for good company. The others, with the exception of cotch Jock, were not tit for such society. lon Juau might be a good one were he not so head stiong. Now comes the event of the day, the Handicap, which, according to my predictions, was carried off by Harkaway, beating four others ; his condition was good, and he and Maiiboy were more lit to win than anything else, and had the latter been even ordinarily ridden, the race would have been a good one, and in my opinion, the result might have been reversed. he day's sport wound up with the ack- elling Stakes, which was won by Happy Jack. In this race the superior riding- was evident, and could, I presume to advise, it would be this, that owners shall be more careful in the selection of Jocks, but more of this in my nexr, when I will give you a slight report of the 2nd day's racing, aud my opinions of it.
