Beneath the rule nf rrim ekttrflv ;rBT, tV pen is MioiiTiKrt than the swonn!”
It is but seldom, that we take up our pen in defence of the Goldfield's department or any of its satelites, but two pertinacious individuals signing themselves A. C. Iverson, and H. H. Watson, on behalf of a '• Miners Committee " at Alexandra, have through the columns ol a Dunedin contemporary, proffered such a series of charges against Mr .Warden Robinson of Clyde, and Mr C. J. Thomson, Officer in Charge at /• lexander, that we cannot let the matter pass unnoticed. 1 he alleg itioos set forth in 'the epistolary correspondence of these representatives of the minera committee; are of such a nature, that were they unfortunately to be true, neither gentlemen would have any other course open to him but to resign his position ; but happily these remarkable letters, are the most illogical we ever recol lect reading, and in no sense substantiate what they set forth as truth. Messrs Iverson and "Watson, appear to us to be what may be appropriately termed " men with a grievance " their ease has resolved itself, as it were, into a" suit in chancery," it is such a conglomeration of impossibilities, and improbabilities, that it is difficult to decide whether there is a case or not In our opinion, the complaints of Messffi Iverson and Watson savors too much oi i ualicioua vinclictivencss to carry any weight in the direction intended ;and
througirttie columns ot the iSvonin<* starl we are at a loss to determine ; we can on] v say, that as far as this journal is concerned! that, we .should be sorry to set- our readers' waste their time, in reading two such 1 trashy, and illogical effusions, as these! two remarkable letters. ' There mayor' there may not be blame attached to Mr! Ihomson, or he might have committed some wrong act; and if > cssrs Iversonl and Watson, have sustained any injury, we believe that upon proper representation ■ being made, that the government will grant redress ; but we very much doubt, if they will take any action in the matter, when the. complaint; instead, of being a public question, merges itself, into one of personal malice.
