MINING INTELLIGENCE.

Alexandra—Butcher's Point.

[from our own correspondent.]

The christening of the Imperial Flume which took place at this point a fortnight past, has been followed by the company commencing ope'rations most actively in sluicing their one-and-a half-acre claim, and the work of bringing in water to this point, promises well to prove of the highest satisfaction to the promoters of the scheme. The water conveyed by the Imperial Flume over the Molyneux will not only serve the purposes of the Imperial Company in sluicing their own ground, 'but also t,o let for hire to other parties as well. Paiker and mates ■Slave already made arrangements to hire a supply to work down the deep stripping of their valuable claim, on the banks of the Molyneux, and by a process of sluicing, they will be able to work out their ground at a very moderate afcouiit of' labor ccinpared with the hitherto expensive system of removing the top-dirt by hand labor.- Jollins and party have taken up a one-acre-claim near that of Parker's, and they also will be supplied with water by the Imperial Company ; consequently in a few days three extensive claims will be in full working Vrder consequent upon the bringing iti of this serviceable water-race. Coleman and party purpose commencing at once to make use of their screw water-wheel, worked by the current of the Molyneux, to force water out of the river to the facing of their claim, so as t6 sluice the ground down to the wash-dirt. The hydraulic power of this wheel will throw a body of water 'to any terrace from twenty to thirty feet above the level of the Molyneux, and the company entertain the most sanguine anticipations t>f being able to sluice their claims quite as effectually as if they hired, like their neighbors, water from the Imperial Race. This point could not hitherto be worked to alny extent, except during the winter season when the Molyneux stood at a very low subsidence, but for the future, the claims can be profitably worked at all seasons of the year, and the current summer months will no doubt witness increasing mining operations in this locality.
