RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COURT, ALEXANDRA.
Before H. W. Robinson, Esq., P.M., and J. 0. Thomson, Esq., J.P. Monday, 29th October, 1866 Michael O'Regan v. Cameron—Assault. From the evidence it appeared that defendant was a Schoolmaster, and that he had severly beaten complainant's daughter, a little girl of seven years old. The Court inflicted a fine of 55., holding that the punishment inflicted was in excess of what was proportionate to the age of the child Catherine O'Regan v. the same—Abusive language. Case dismissed. Cameron v. Michael O'Regan—Assault. 'lt appeared that on the 26th inst., when defendant came to know that his child had been unduly beaten, he took the law into his own hands and chastised the schoolmaster, for doing which the Court fined him 5s and costs. Before 11. W. Robinson. Wednesday, 31st October. Fillhouso v. Scott—Claim of £2O reduced from £2l 17s 4d to bring the case within the jurisdiction of the Court. The debt was admitted. Judgment for amount claimed and costs. •
