ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLISH MAIL.

[ FROK OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The following appeared in a Dunstan Times extraordinary, published on Tuesday evening:— Dunedin, 2.30 p.m. The Albion arrived at the Bluff this morning with the July English Mail. London, July 27th. The Atlantic cable has been successfully laid. A Parliamentary Committee has recommended a weekly mail to Bombay; also, a direct line of telegraph to the same place via Alesandria. London, July 28th. The Government have refused permission to the Reform League to hold a demonstration in Hyde Park. Preliminaries of Peace were signed yesterday. The annexation is indefinately prolonged. The Prussian troops remain in Bohemia and Bavaria. Preliminaries of peace have been ratified. Austria consents to recognise the arrangements made by Prussia f„r the future of Germany, Italy requires that the question of unconditional union of Venetia shall be submitted to the Plebisscitum. Austria is excluded from the German Confederation and is to pay a war indemnity of twenty million thalers. Victor Emmanuel is at Padua. An Italian proclamation has been issued for the reconstruction of Venetia.
Communication with New York through the cable remains perfect. I.ondok, Aug. 2nd. Messages are regularly received through the Atlantic Cable. Tennessee has been addmitted into thß Union. Congress has adjourned, The Secretary of the interior has resigned. • The truce between Italy and Austria has been prolonged for eight days pending Austria's reply. Ohurch-Rates Bill read a second time.* Congratulatory messages have been exchanged between Her Majesty the Queen, and President Johnston, on the establishment isf Telegraphic-coin'municatin between England and America. Monster Reform Meeting after the Hyde Park affair, a-U passed off quietly. The Derby Ministry has been entertained at a Mansion House Dinner. The House of Commons has passed a resolution declaring thai the Corporal and capital punishment inflicted in Jamacia after the supression of the rebellion was imr>cPß nry. The New Fouth Wales and Tasmanian Government Bill has been passed. The Registrar-General reports cholera on the increase in London. Bank Discount Rates 10 per cent. Government promises a revision of the Bank Charter A dt, during next session. LoNfiosr, Aug. 11th. The speech of the King of Prussia at the opening of the Legislative Chambers did not make reference to the subject of mediation by the Emperor of the French, but regret was expressed as to the Russian proposal for a conference. France demands restoration of her frontiers, as they existed in 1814, this point has been always anxiously avoided. The Emiierol' of Mexico is still in Paris. Mace and Goss fought for the championship, according to private telegram Mace won. France has demanded the cession of the Rhine provinces, it is feared that this will cause serious difficulties and perhaps even a general European war, as the German States are not likely to yield to such demands. During the last week there have been one thousand four hundred deaths from Cholera in London. Rioting in Hyde Park was renewed at the end of July, consequent upon the withdrawal of the Military and Police by the Government. The Great Eastern returned to port on the afternoon of the 24th Julyjafter the successful laying'of the Atlantic Cable. No difficulties were experienced during her certainly memorable voyage. The marriage of the Princess Helena took place on Wednesday the sth August, in presence af the Royal Family and King and Queen of the Belgians, the Corps Diplomatique, and a numerous assemblage of the aristocracy.
