TOWN COUNCIL, CROMWELL.
Tlie Council met at the Court House, : on Monday evening, September 10th. The ■ Mayor and full Council were present. The minutes of the previous meeting . were read and confirmed. . Ihe I own-clerk read a letter from the i Colonial Secretary's office acknowledging , the receipt of a letter respecting the . election of Mr W. J. Barry as Mayor of the town of Cromwell. A letter was also read from Mr Warden , Stratf rd, requesting payment for his 1 services as Acting-Mayor, during the ( Municipal elections. Ordered to stand j over. i A letter from VrW Grant, accepting his , appointment as Valuator to the Munici- ] pality. i Proposed by Councillor Marsh, seconded j by Councillor Kidd—That Councillor , \V hotter be appointed to sign all cheques, of the Corporation, in conjunction with , the Mayor. Carried. < '! he Committee appointed to select ai ■ site for the Town-hall, report, that the | Government Reserve, on the south side of Melmea Terrace, is the most suitable. The report was received Proposed by Councillor Whelter, seconded by Councillor Kidd —That the Town-hall be erected on the south side of Melmea Terrace, and cast of the Ferry Keserve. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Whettcr, seconded by Councillor Kidd —That the Town-c!erk be instructed to write to the W sate Lands Commissioner, requesting that the reserve alluded to in the preceding minute be handed over to the Council, as a site for the Town-hall, and to point out the injury that would result to the owners of the adjoining property, and the main street of the town, should the land in question be taken up for mining purposes. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Whetter, -seconded by Councillor Marsh —That a resolution passed at the previous meeting of the Council, limiting the size of the Council Chambers be resi inded. • arried. Proposed by Councillor Kidd, seconded by Councillor Whettcr—'l hat plans and specifications be invited from persons willing to contract for the construction of a wood and galvanised iron building, 18 feet by 30 feet, to be used as a Town-hall, at f'romwe 1. Tenders to be sent to the Town-clerk, on or before Monday the 24th inst., at noon, and that the same be called for by advertisement in the Dunstan Times. With the usual vote io the Chair the proceedings terminated.
