DUNEDIN.

The indignation meeting held in Pur.e- I din, on the Provinces Revenue Question, wa- numerously attended, a large number of the loading citizens being present. The business was conducted in a peaceable ! and satisfactory manner; after a lenghty speech on the manner in which the Provinces were treated by the General Government by Mr Bathgate, the following resolutions were carried unanimously. i r Bathgate proposed—That this meeting, considering the large proportion of the public revenue drawn from this Province, and that of late a centralising tendency has been exhibited by'the General Government, whereby the revenue of this Province is abstracted, as well as additional burdens created for the purpose of expenditure elsewhere, desire to express a strong opinion against every measure having the effect of diminishing the amount of the proportion of the revenue at present locally appropriated—on the faith of which large obligations have been undertaken ; and their belief that financial reform, whereby the expenditure of the Govern- , ment be curtailed, and more equitably distributed amongst the Provinces, is imperatively required. Mr E.. B. Martin seconded the motion; and it was unanimously adopted. Mr E. B. Cargill proposed—That this meeting is of opinion that repealing the 41st clause of the Municipal Impowering \ct will greatly diminisii the usefulness of Municipal Institutions, and a large portion of the Corporation receipts will be destroyed, -without benefit to the General Government to any extent. Seconded by Douglas; and it was earned unanimously. Mr lolnrie moved—That a memorial to both ouses of Ass- mbly be prepared, and signed by the Mayor in name of this meeting, and transmitted by him to the members for the city, for presentation. Mr Barr seconded the motion, which was adopted. Mr Webb moved—That further, in order effect to the views of this meeting, to give a Committee be formed to forward such organisation as rnay be deemed advisable for__ securing that attention to the wishes , of.. tha ■ of the Province to which, looking* at their position, wealth, and resources,- they : are legitimately entitled, and that the fol • lowing gentlemen do form the Committee : • Messrs J. Bathgate, K. B. Cargill, R. B. ■ Martin, J. Douglas, W. A. Tolmie, W. ason, and "Webb, with power to add to their number. Mr i aldwed seconded the i motion.-' ■ - • I i . Mr Ca dwell thought that the proposed : Committee, acting with other bodies in i the inland towns, would be an organisation s which should be able to prevent future

vineial revenues. 1 Mr Grant could -not conceive - what] 'benefit coild he "derivtil 'from the Committee, and moved —That the members for Ihmedin, Messrs Pattergon . and Reynolds'' be j respectfully requested to resign. Seconded by \'r Edmond Reeves. Upon the shew of hands it was negatived, after which the proceedings term - Bated with a vote of thanks to the Chair.
