The grand Concert in aid of the Benevolent Institution, "as a great success. A-i influential public meeting was held on Tuesday respecting the Provincial and Muuioipal Revenues ; several resolutions were passed, and a political committee was formed. The Mayor telegraphed to Wellington the result of the meeting ; the telegram excited a great sensation in the House. The Municipal Bill ws.s postponed till Monday. Ralph Donkin, 'ate Engineer to the Dunedin Water Works, was tried on Wednesday, for embezzlement and acquitted. He will be tried to-day on other charges. The Nelson murderers have applied for a special jury. Burgess is engaged in writing an account of his life. Two extensive fires have occured in Auckland. A serious riot took place in Queensland. The rioters threatened to burn clown the Governor's residence.
