TOWN-COUNCIL CLYDE.
The meeting adjourned from Thursday the 9tU inst, was held at the Victoria Theatre on Saturday last. The Mayor, Mr J. D Keraud, and all the Councillors were present. The bus iness commenced by confirming the minutes of the previous sitting. Applications for the joint oiHses of Inspector of Vuisances and Weights and Measures were received from Noah Lingard and John Healv Tlui applications, on the motion of Councillor Cope, were consigned to the waste paper basket. Proposed by Councillor Goodwin That the sum of £.O per annnm be the salary attached to the j 'in; offices of -nspector of Vuis mcjs and Weights and Measures. Seconded bv Councillor Ryan Carried. The Mayor was requested to write to the Chief Inspector of Police, respecting appointing a mem»er of the force to perform the duties of Inspector of Nu'sance and Weights and Measures. Applications for the office of Town-clerk and Collector were received from Messrs Martin Marshall, and William Bailey. No appointment was made, from the fact, that one application was informal, iherelore there was no competition for the nffico. A motion was carried by the casting vote of 'lie Mayor,—That: an thar advertisement tor a Town-clerk be inserted in the local newspaper iwice, the nuvertistmint to stale the salary to be paid together with the tiiiiure and amount of ■ec.irity required. ceive £7O per annum; the latter 10 per cent on ill rates collected. Ultimately it was agreed that the two offices be combined, and that the person appointed give security for £4(10. two securities in €l5O each, and himself in £IOO. v Business being resumed, Councillor Cope ■roposed—That Councillor Hazlet be the Councillor whose special duty it shall be to sign cheques in conjunction with the Mavor and Town-cleik. Seconded by Councillor Cambridge. Carritd. Councillor Ryan proposed—That the Municipal account be kept at the Bank of New Zealand. Seconded bv Councillor Morice. Carried. The question of salaries being again gone into it was unanimously carried—That the Auditors receive one guinea each per audit, the Valuators 5 per cent on the rate struck, ■ Proposed by Councillor Ryan—That the Acting Towr-slerk in conjunction with Councillor Cambridge be empowered to purchase office furniture il» books and stationery. Seconded by Councillor Cambridge. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Goodwin—That every Friday at 7 o'clock p.m., be the day and hour for holding the weekly meetings of the Council. Seconded by Councillor Cambridge. Carried. STANDING OIiHEKB. BS (buncillor C ope proposed—That the following Standing Orders.— Councillors having business to bring forward, to give notice of motion at least one sitting previous to the motion being heard. All motions to be in writing and countersigned by the Seconder. Every Councillor to remain standing while addressing the chair. Matters of Municipal business from the Mayor, to ' come through the Town-clerk. That four Councillors form a quorum. Seconded by Councillor Hazlett. Carried. MODB 0» PROCEEDING WIT* JHJBI«TBSi, Proposed by Councillor Cambridge, seconded by Croncillor Hazlett and carried—That the business of each meeting be taken in the following order;— Ist. Correspondence. 2nd. Business from Town- clerk. 3rd. Motions. 4th Payment, or passing of accomnts. Councillor Hazlett proposed—That a duplicate of a correspondence be kept. Seconded by Councillor Cambridge, aud carried. Proposed by Councillor Hazlett—That His Honor the Superintendent be written to asking that Mi Warden Robinson might be appointed Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages for Clvde. Second-.d by Councillor Goodwin, and caried. Proposedby Councillor Cope—Tba'|Uis Honor the Superintendent be requested to grant half an acre of land in block XI, having a frontage to Sunderlano .street, for a Town-hall reserve. Also that blocks ■», 5, 6, and 7, be reserved for the uses of the Municipality, in lieu of the sections already reserve! 1 . Seconded by councillor Ryan and carried.
