MINING INTELLIGENCE.

(from our crojiwell correspondent.) No act more culpable in its nature can be commit ted by the correspondent of a public journal, than to mislead the mining community, through penning statements calculated to allure miners from one district to another, without having facts of the most sterling nature to justify him in doing so. In former communication, I broadly stated that the li«trict of Hatter's Gully, some seven miles übo've Cromwell, possessed allurements ot unquestionable interest to miners generally, and that the country thence to the Lugget Hock, a distance of twenty miles, hail been proved auriferous throughout, also, that in the province there is not a safer opening to invest capital in the construction of waterraces. I further stated, that Kelly, Edwards, and party had just brought in a race to Hatter's from Farmer's Creek, and that the terraces of that Gully had been found payable to a very satisfactory degree. During the hist week a branch race out of that of Matter's was cut, and directed to some gullies running into the Louburn, a distance of a mile and a half nearer Cromwell. One gully of the right class has been taken possession of by live partier, who pay ten shillings per week per m : r« to Edward's and Kelly's party for as lnuclL water as they may stand in need of f§ work their ground speedily and prolitablß L'lie miners of this new gully are desirous of U ivjig itcaliedafterthe first Al ayor ofCron . -veil. I am in a position to state, that four ,'iillies, at least, running into the y Louburr, lave been satisfactorily ascertained to Le niriferous. The owners of the larre .water-race mentioned, are constructing a I ranch race to command the gullies refei-

"raid to, during the approaching week this branch will' be coirfplet-ed, and any parties ready to set in, and satisfied with moderate earnings, may do so and be supplied with water upon the most reasonable terms. j 'hat a most extensive goldh'eld, «nd payable, will be soon r.i full working in this district there can be no doubt "Whatever.. ' The name of this field will be in my correspondence at all times "the ('rotnwell it will extend, as I have previously stated, from the.Louden Creek, four miles above Cromwell, to the Lugget Rock, twenty miles higber up the Olutha. . The facility with which water -was,: brought to 'the newly opened gully has given the locality a highly satisfactory impetus, Hie same Avill attend soon over the whole district. lam disposed to, make here a few remarks relative to the charges for sluice-heads o'f water made by owners of races.' In a former issue, a letter' appeared signed ' : Aqua,' ; complaning of the high charges made by those who Jiave races commanding the banks "of the Molyneux; the writer very sensibly rriairked, that "the gold must for a lengthy period, remain in the ground undisturbed, n;i'!e<s'the race owners will charge a moderate rat*-, and .give the individual miner an •Opp >rtunity of earning reasonable wajres." W . n p hip*", li-o lo pay twoaud tkrteand even four pounds a week for a sluice-head, his claim nru t be a veritable jeweller's shop, to enable him to meet such an ex penditure. Let the race owners, exercisesome little conscientious charity, and their water will, no doubt, be eagerly rented. the present time, the owner of the wd'ter supply at Hatter's have what is termed in a cant phrase " drawn it mild " in their charges; and by charging a low figure on the twenty or five and twenty s!nice-heads they soon will have for hire ; titer income will not be very inconsiderable ; besides enabling industrious " hatter.'," or small parties to earn reniurioratiye wages.
