We regret that we are obliged to hold over until our next issue the lengthy correspondence of our Cromwell correspondent. In the meantime, we may state, that the diggings in the district of Hatter’s Gully, seven miles above Cornwell, are daily extending. The great water race of Kelly and party is now brought to the district, and any number of sluice heads of water are at present to be hired at a very moderate rate, and there is a most promis- ' ing opening for fresh hands. The nomination of candidates for the offices of Councillors for Cromwell took place yesterday. Messrs Hetherington, Kidd, Marsh, andWhcttcr were nominated, and for want of opposition were duly elected. As auditors, Mtssrs Grant and Kean were duly elected. Vote of thanks to Acting Mayor terminating the proceedings The ‘ Government Gazette” of the 11th inst., notties the appointment of Messrs. M'Pherson, Barlow, Grindley, and Ryan as Managers of the Clyde Cemetery. Mr Robert Barlow, honorary secretary, of whom all forms and every particular respecting interments can be obtained. The nomination of candidates for ■ the offices of Councillors and Auditors, took place at the •'Court House yesterday. IT. , -Wi Robinson, Esq., R.M. as acting Mayor presiding. We refer our readers to the advertisement for the names of those nominated as Councillors. As Auditor’s Messrs A. Christopher and R. Barlow were duly elected, they being the only ones nominated. It was understood the polling ■will take place on Wednesday next, the Ist August. We draw the attention of those interested, to the advertisement notifying that the land at Alexandra can now be purchased by those who have buildings, at the rate of os per foot frontage, due notice of such intent to purchase to be given to the Warden, on or before Friday the 10th August next ensuing. If the notices are not left in due course and form the land to bo sold by auction without valuation for buildings. The elections for the Mayorship of Clyde and Cromwell came off on Saturday last. Mr Jean Ties ire Feraud was'elected Mayor of Clyde, by a majority of seven over his opponent, Mr Allen Fitch. Mr I William Jackson Barry was elected Mayor of Cromwell, by a majority of eighteen votes over his opponent, Mr Henry Leslie. Mr Thomas Shanly declined the contest. The usual annual public meeting for the election of a Committee to look after the interests of the Alexandra School, was held at the School-house, on Monday evening last. Mr P. Calder was voted to the chair, after an introductory speech bearing upon school matters the Chairman called upon the Treasurer to read the annual report. The report showed a highly satisfactory state of affairs. After expending a large sum in building and other improvements and discharging all | liabilities there was a balance on hand of L 9 Is Gd ; LIOO was due from the Government for building purposes, the receipt of which sum, the Treasurer re ported would enable the Committee to further aid the efficiency of the School accomodation. Messrs Sampson, Telford, Buddy, Theyers, Calder, Finlay, Bores* ford, and Thompson were elected as Cora mitteefortheensuing twelve months. Some unimportant matters of detail connected with the management of the School being discussed, the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings.
