TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUNSTAK TIMES.

Skipper's, May 25, 1866. Sir, —In your issue of May 5, (which only came to hand to-day,) I see a letter signed D. R. A. Y., in which is the following : —" In a letter which appeared in your issue of Saturday last, signed R. D. Owen, lesees of the Cromwell coal-pit, I perceive that that gentleman states that he only charges 19s per ton at thepit's-mouth." If yotir correspondent would look a little more carefully to my'letter he would find I did not state that I charged 19s at the mouth of the pit, but that the consumers should not pay more for the coal at the present time than they did when it was 19s at the month of the pit, as I am prepared to deliver the coal at Cromwell for the same price as they were paying previous to the road being made. As to the other part of your correspondent's letter in which he states, I have been grossly imposed upon in the cost of the road. I beg to state that I am quite as competent as D. R. A. Y. or any one else in the Colony to judge what is a dray's work, and I know the men were not over paid for the work they did in making the road. Mr Editor, in yourleadingarticle, you can scarcely ci-edit my assertion of having permission to raise the price 6s per ton. Perhaps you would be kind enough to carry out your suggestion (if D. R. A. Y.) will not) in having the case tried in the Warden's Court, you will then see if my assertion is correct, I must apologise for taking up so much of your valuable space; it however shall be my last on this subject, unless your correspondent has courage enough to sign his name to the next. I may also state for your information before c'osing this, that in consequence < f the increased demand for the coi 1, I have been enabled to lower the price to 20s \ c x

ton at the mouth of the pit, but I had *doae so previous to receiving you issue of ;stli May. I am, Sir, Yutir obedient servant, R. D. Owens
