LETTERS. Island Lettrr : From anv part of New Zealand to any other port of New Zealand : Not exceeding £ 2d. Exceeding 1 ounce, and not exceeding 1 ounce Id. 1 „ „ 2 „ 3d. and soon, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To the United Kingdom, By Southampton orhy direct ship— Not exceeding ounce Gd. Exceeding J ounce, and not exceeding 1 ounce Is. „ 1 „ .. 2 „ 2s. and so on, increasin'? one shillin'? for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles— Not exceeding ounce 10d. Exceed, j ounce, and not exceed. 1 ounce Is Sd. 1 „ „ 2 „ Ss Id ~ 2 „ ~3 „ 5s Sd. Every ounce after the first, is Id. To British Colonies and Foiugn Countries, (For which Mails arc made up direct.) Not exceeding i ounce Cd. Exceeding ounce, and not exceed. I ounce Is. „ i „ _ 2., 2s. and so on, increasing one shilling fer every additional ou-ce or fraction of an ounce. To the Continent of Europe, via Trieste Not exceed. § ounce Is. Exceed, jounce, and not exceed. 1 ounce , 2s. „ 1 » u 2 . 4s. and so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To Naval Seamen and Soldiers. Letters sent to or hy seamen and soldiers in Her Majesty’s service will be transmitted within (he colony, and between the colony and any post-office in the British dominions, at a charge of one penny, provided that the following regulations are observed ; 1. Each letter must not exceed half an ounce in IPUfe weight. 2. It must he superscribed with the name of the j writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and s’gned by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be pre-paid. Every letter of this description posted orrecoivcd in this colony, hot in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. The postage upon these letters must in all cases be paid in advance. Free Letters. Letters on the public service of Her Majesty’s naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if hearing the words -‘On Her Majesty’s Service,” and the signature of the officer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. Letters on the public service of the General Go■vernment of the colony are transmitted free by ‘ j 'f bearing the words •’ On the Public Service and the signature of some officer of the a! Government authorised to frank letters. Registered Letters. Registration fee 6d. >n addition to the ordinary postage chargeable on any letter. NEWSPAPERS.
