MINING INTELLIGENCE.

FROM A CORKKSPOXDEXT. An addition to the products of Bendigo Gully has been made during the past month. A wealthy company in Dunodin has inaugurated perseverance in search of a quartz reef in this district, and judging from all appearance the object of this enterprising party is likely to be attained. Two experienced reefers have been engaged, and have set to work at a point about half a mile from the present workings, and as a distinct reef was found, in the leaders of which gold was visible to the naked eye, the men settled down to work at once. Their intention was to sink a shaft alongside the reef, and then drive into it to test the value of the stone. However, that plan has been found to be impracticable without timber, and consequently they aie at present sinking dead through the reef, and their hopes of being on the right scent are strengthening daily. The reef bears much more ' apparent signs of being a payable one than many at present yielding handsomely in V ictoria and

The Aurora" Water Race Company are energetically forming their new race from No. 2 Creek, and, although the length and cost of the conduit will be very considerable, yet the undertaking cannot fail to prove satisfactory to the shareholders generally. This race once finished, the company will not only have the means of sluicing themselves, but also of hiring out many heads of water to others. Several of those who left the gully for other places some time ago have returned, having found that the gully, though not rich, yields steadier wages than any other spot they can find. The opening up the lower gorge is progressing fast, and in a few weeks hence the lower auriferous flat, now unworkable, will, in all probability, be a scene of considerable activity. Hatter's Gully, which is on the northern side of the Clutha, facing Quartz Reef Point, is doing well, and likely to continue so for some time to come. During the last fortnight several fresh hands have arrived, and one party have commenced operations systematically by cutting a roue to divert the water from the bed of the gully, so as to enable them to take all the auriferous ground before them in one facing. The older hands are doing steadily well,°and feel no inclination whatever to change their quarters. The cardinal hope of this locality is the extensive water-race of Edwards, Kelly, and party, which is at present in course of construction. It takes its rise from the Farmers ('r-ek : its length will be about four miles, and its carrying capabilities from six to ten sluice heads of water. It will command a large number of the terraces overhanging Hatter's and the other gullies of the district, and in every probability it will prove a strong incentive to the formation of other companies for a similar purpose. The district is highly calculated to prove a safe investment for capital and labor, and bids fair to become one of much more than commonplace importance.
