LETTERS. Inland Lettrs : From any part of Now Zealand to any other part of New Zealand: — Not exceeding; $ oz 2d. Exceeding | ounce, and not exceeding 1 ounce 4d. 1 „ .. 2 .. Stland so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To the United Kingdom, By Southampton or by direct shipNot exceeding i ounce 6d. Exccediug * ounce, and not exceeding 1 ounce Is. „ 1 „ ~ 2 .. 2isnd so on, increasing ono shilling for every additional eunc» or fraction of an ounce By Marseilles— Not exceeding £ ounca 10d. Letters sent to or by seamen and soldiers in Her Majesty's service will be transmitted within the ■colony, and between the colony and any post-oificc in the British dominions, at a charge of one penny, provided that the following regulations are observed ; 1. Each letter must not exceed half an ounco in weight. 2. It must he superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, an 1 signed by the officer at the time in cdnman 1. 3. The postage must be pre-paid. Every letbrof this description posted or received in this colon, - , not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter. The postage upon these letters must in all cases bo paid in advance. Free Letters. Letters on the public service of Her Majesty's naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words ''On Her Majesty's Service," and the signature of the officer in command of the force on the service of ■which the letter is despatched.
\Lettors on the public service of the General Gol /Ornmcnt of the colony are transmitted free by i pa?f, if bearing the words -'On the Public Service only," and the signature of some officer of the General Government authorised to frank letters.
