TO THE ELECTORS OF THE MANUHERIKIA DISTRICT. Gentlemen,--ii- views wliich I have already laid before you at the several meetings. I have held throughout the district, it is, I think, unnecessary for me to do so further at any length. I will therefore merely briefly reiterate what I have stated. That I would pledge myself to support if you did me the honor to return me as your representative : 1. A reduction of the lavish expenditure which has hitherto been going on to the lowest figure consistent with the efficient administration of the afiairs of the 'colony. 2. The withdrawal of the Goldfields delegated powers from the Provincial authorities. 3. To oppose in every way I can the spread of Provinoialism, and to support the introduction of sofl6le3s~cumbersome, less expensive, and more useful form of government in its place. 4. The continuance of the Otago and Melbourne steam postal subsidy. 5. The repeal of the 28th clause of the new Goldfields Amendment Act, passed last session. 6. The equitable adjustment of the tariff generally, particularly the abolition of the duty on machinery generally. To eecui-e for the goldfields and eveiy other interest in the district the consideration deserved by their magnitude and importance. Having many political friends in the Assembly, and a political career to refer to, I feel certain I must necessarily be able to secure much more attention to your interests than if I were a new or untried If you return me I will look after your interests to the best of my ability, and I shall make it my duty, after each session, to meet my constituents, when, should it appear to the majority of you that I have not honestly performed my duty, I shall at •once resign my seat. I am, Gentlemen, Yours obediently, WILLIAM BALDWIN. Manuherikia, March 1-.J866.

The original proprietor, Michael Cullen (who will still hold a considerable interest in the Company) has worked the claim for over two (2) years, during which time a great quantity of gold has been obtained. "Within the last three months he has been at a heavy expense in putting extra plant on tlie ground to work it more effectually, and found the undertaking too great for his limited means—for which reason only it is offered to the public. The claim is so well known in the district that the Directors consider it useless to puff it up, but invite the Public to inspect the claim and plant. The share list will remain open for one month when if the whole of the Fifty-one (51) Shares are not taken up, the several deposits will be returned.
