After] explaining the objects of the meeting, and congratulating those present upon the! healthy state of the school, and the easy | task a new committee would have, called upon Mr Booth, the Secretary, to j read the report. The Secretary stated that the school! ■was first agitated for about the beginning of 18(14, when a public meeting was convened for the purpose of ascertaining what amount of support could be obtained. £7O was promised on that occasion by the residents of Cromwell. A Committee was then formed of the following gentlemen :—Dr Corse (Chairman), Messrs C.W. Roberts (Hon Treasurer), J. Booth (Hon Secretary), T. Shanley, John Butler. James Lawrence, G. W. Goodyer, C. Thomas, and Isaac Wright Since that period the Committee have collected subscriptions sufficient to enable them to build a substantial school at a cost of about £3OO. During the Committee's term of office they have employed a teacher at a salary of £2OO per annum, being £65 from Government, £65 from school-fees, aud £7O from subscriptions. The Committee have ranch pleasure in stating that the present balance in hand is about £OO. .They now resign their trust in your hands, with the assurance that they have endeavored to give satisfaction to the best of their ability. The Treasurer read the financial statement, showing a balance on hand of £B7 4s 6d. Proposep by Mr Marsh, "That the thanks of this meeting are due to the retiring committee for having brought the school to such a flourishing condition." Seconded by Mr P. C. Kelly, who complimented them upon their successful term of office. Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr P. C. Kelly, and seconded by Mr Marsh, " That a vote of thanks be given to Mr Fleming for the able and satisfactory manner in which he had conducted the school since its commencement. Carried unanimously. The following gentlemen were duly elected members for the ensuing twelve months :—" Messrs John Marsh. P. C. Kelly, Isaac Wright, G. W. Goodyer, W. H. Whetter, John Luscombe, Joseph Booth, John Hetherington, Robert Edwards. A vote of thanks to the chairman, concluded the proceedings.
