LETTERS. Island Letths : From nnv part of New Zealand to any other pnrt cf New Zealand:— Not exceeding $ oz 2d. Exceeding \ ounce, and not exceeding 1 ounce 4d. 1 „ ~ 2 „ 8(1. and so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To the United Kingdom, By Southampton or by direct ship— Not exceeding 4 ounce 6d. Exceeding ', ounce, and not exceeding 1 ounce Is. 1 ~ „ 2 „ 2s and so on, one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. By Marseilles— Not exceeding ~, ounce lOcl. Exceed. * ounce, and not exceed. 1 ounce Is Bd. „ 1 „ „ 2 „ 3s 4d ~ 2 „ ~3 „ 5s Bd. Every ounce after the first, Is Id. 1
To British Colonies and Foiugn Countries, (For which Mails are made up direct) Not exceeding £ ounce .. . , 6d Exceeding J- ounce, and not exceed. 1 ounce Is >, 1 i. ~2 ,', 2s. and so on, increasing one shilling fer every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To the Continent of Europe via Trieste Not exceed, § ounce Is Exceed. 3 ounce, and not exceed. 1 ounce . 2s „1„„a ~ . 4s and so on, increasing hvo shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. To Naval Seamen and Soldi*.... Letters sent to or hy seamen and soldiers in Her Majesty's service will he transmitted within the colony, and between the colony and any post-office in the British dominions, at a charge of one penny, provided that the following regulations are observed ; 1. Each letter must not exceed half an ounce in weight. 2. It must he superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and s'gned by the officer at the time in command. 3. The postage must be pre-paid. Every letter of this description posted orreceived in this colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulation?, will be treated as an ordinary letter. The postage upon these letters must in all cases be paid in advance. Free Letters. Letters on the puMic service of Fer Majestv's naval and military forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if bearing the words -'On Fer Majesty's Service," and the signature of the offieer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. Letters on the public service of the General Government of the colony are tran mitted free by post, if bearing theworos "On the Public Service only," and the signature of some officer of the General Government authorised to frank letters.
Registebed Letters. Registration fee 6d. In addition to the ordinary postage chargeable on any letter. NEWSPAPERS.
