December 12. In the Chamber of Deputies last night the Premier, M. Ferry, made a statement regarding the Franco-Chinese difficulty, in which it is announced that the attitude assumed by the Chinese Government had defeated Earl Granville's efforts _ay to mediation between the two countries, and parleying which had been proceeding has now ended. M. Ferry added that the Government intended to pursue energetic measures iv the prosecution of hostilities against China. (Received December 13, 12.40 p.m.)
