[from our own correspondent.]
Tho report of the meeting of the shar'ohol,s ers * n the "EvehingNews and Hawke's Bay A f lvertifier " Company, held on Friday evenina* ' licl not loso anything from the fact of it havin-'' he'en officially furnished for publication 0 The report indeed, conveniently left ou'* * c most interesting items of information, an * somewhat exaggerated what little- it did s.hv.., Iv the first placo my informant failed to' tbo 63 shi ? re ; holders who it "was s>ted were present. The dining-table, in tue ..Clarendon Club Hotel, round which~the -sh:areholders sat, would have rto -be consiuerabl/ stretched to soat .thirty on each side. I, .put the total number in the room at ab f - n ] t _ 10 ™-" five, not 63. ■ The.''official'.'ropor. + - father stated that " over 2000 shares had be'" 1 applied for." If this be true the amou ut ol money in hand does not tally with the number qf shares, the . chairman, ,d_ring ti.'O evening, having said that the total amount receivod was £187 10s. ; This sum represents at 2s fid per share on application, exactly 1500 f-hares.., The- chairman also informed tho. meeting that .the expenses up to date had amounted to £100, leaving £87 10s in hand. On the strength of this flourishing, state ;of affairs, .the directors have forwarded £500 to Sydney for a complete printing plant.'/ and they havo rendered, themselves responsible, I understand, for a further sum of £200 if th__£soo is not sufficient to cover, the cost of a complete plant."- The directors have aiso taken on lease the old Methodist chapel in Emerson-street which will be T converted into a j printing office. The shareholders, may therefore look out for a speedy call. The meeting. adjourned to , the, .'following Monday when permanent directors will be elected, and the shares allotted. The allotment will bring in another half-crown per sharo, or £187 10s rif.no more shares have beon applied for since Friday, but I think you will find i was not far wrong in mylast letter whon; I stated my belief that Messrs W. C. Smith, J. H- Vautier, H. Williams, aud W. Villers "will tako up 1000 .hares each.. Unless, indeed, they or others do so tho whole affair, must fall to the ground for thero is not money enough in the concern to carry it through. I .for-gqt-to say.that, at.the meeting, on Friday, the'qualification for a; director was made 25 shares, or. tho 400 th part of.tho proposed total... To.hold the 400 th part in a company doosfnot seem a very large interest, nor in some companies v/ould it be consulered a sufficient guarantee for the most efficient conduct ol business. - -This little matter is, however, of no ; pu_lic .interest,; nor should I have mentioned a' word about the "company in question had so many riot been •pestered, I had.almost said.bullied, into ' taking share's. •„,The total number of share.holderais said to be 120. ... ■
