Second Day. |_by telegraph.] Wellington, Saturday. The following races wore-run too late for Saturday's issue. "MAIDEN PLATE, Of 40 soys ; 1| miles. Ugly Buck, 7st 121b 1 Dynamite, 9st .. .. .. .. 2 Only the two started. Won easily. Dividend, £1 3s. ; ST. ANDREW'- HANDICAP, Of 100 soys; li miles. Mr Tancred's Administrator, Bst 10lb (Clifford) .. ...... .. 1 Mr F. Hill's Speculation, (lato Hippodairiia), 7st 61b (A. Smith) .. .. 2 Mr D. Campion's Armourer, 7st (Hickey) .. ... : •' 3 —Minofva, Bayard, Refrigerator, ancl Witiora also ran. The Poet and Ugly Buck were scratched. Minerva, Speculation, and Armourer woro equal favorites. A splendid start was effected. Passing the staud Administrator led, Avith Armourer at his girths aud Witiora a length away, Bayard next, Refrigerator and Minerva bringing up the rear. At the bottom turn Peters let out Witiora, and quickly had the lead, which he increased to six lengths. The others ■were now in a cluster, Administrator having his nock in front. Witiora gradually increased her lead until Hearing tho road, when Administrator lessoned tho gap, and Armourer also improved his position. At the road Witiora fell back beaten, and Mr Tancred's colt had a leading position, Armouror second, audßayardthird. Coming to the straight Derritt brought Minerva up, and raised the hopes of the backers, but he could not get on even terms. Speculation was lying fourth and coming fast. Half way down the straight Clifford called on the roan colt, who answered gamely, and won by. a length with a bit in hand, Speculation beating Armourer by the like distance, Bayard fourth, and Minerva, Refrigerator, and Witiora iv the order named. Time, 2inin. 43sec. Dividend, £G 6s. The winner was cheered on weighing in. LOCAL HANDICAP, Of 25 soys. '. MrE. Parke's Potaka .. .. 1 —Six others ran. Dividend £2 ss. HACK EAC-. Germaine • .. .. .. ; .. 1 Dividend £2 7s. '■•■■■ CONSOLATION. Mr Campion's Armourer, 7st 41b ■. 1 Mr F. A race to tho straight, where Armourer „hot out. from the ruck and won rather easily by a length from The Slave, a length separating the second and-thnxL Dividend £12 4s. There was £6200 put through the totalisator in the two days.
