CLIVE SQUARE IMPROVEMENT FAIR.

The modern English Fair which is being organised in aid of the fund now being raised for the improvement of Clive Square, will be held on Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th December next, in the vacant section in Tennyson-street, formerly occupied by Dr. Spencer. The promoters of the scheme, who appear .to' be using every endeavor to make the fair unusually attractive and interesting, have received numerous promises of support and co-operation from tho public generally: while a number of prominent citizens, who had proffered their services to the committee have signified their acceptance of tho various duties which have been assigned to them. The levelling of the (section is at present being proceeded with, and the timber for the frameworks of tho numerous tents and sido shows is now ou the ground, and is being utilized for tho purposes named. Tho attractions of tho fair which aro very varied will comprise _ a gorgoous wax-works show where there will be exhibited a number of ancient and modern celebrities, and several wellknown colonial identities all in appropriate costumes, and a boxing saloon, which will be in charge of local amateur pugilist of some repute, who for a small sura will allow himself to be knocked about by anyone desirous of a little harmless exercise. Each ot these exhibitions will be held iv separate tents. In another tent a "fat boy " may be inspected. This exhibit has been inquiettraining for some timepast, and has been specially engaged for the occasion. Tho next enclosure will be set apart for gymnastic representations by a company of local acrobats who will perform on the horizontal bar, roman rings, &c. An excellent panorama of tho Zulu war has been obtained, and will be shown on the ground, while a shooting gallery, a punching machine, a inerry-go-rounci, and several novelties of a highly interesting nature will bo included amongst the sights and amusements of the fete. That familiar figure "Aunt Sally" will of course be present, and will be under the command of a distinguished veteran, who it is to be hoped will see that the old lady is tenderly cared for. Tho "Richarelson's show" promises to bo one of tho features of the fair, quite a large company of well-known performers being now actively engaged in the preparation of sevoral highly sensational tradgedies aud amusing burlesques. Each of the exhibitions will of course havo its own "showmen" to eulogize on tho excellence and beauty of the shows to be seen inside the tents, and these gentlemen will be "made up" in the most approved stylo. Persons d esirous Of obtaining useful and fancy articles of every description at reduced prices will have the opportunity of either patronising the "Cheap Jack" who will be stationed in a prominent position or of purchasing at the stalls, which have been set apart for the various tradesmen and storekeepers, who intend to exhibit and dispose of their goods. Befreshmonts of every kind will be obtainable on tho ground, and the wants of the public generally will be in every way attended to. The Garrison Band with their usual willingness have tendered their services, and will enliven the proceedings with choice selections ; they will also supply the necessary dance music, a portion of the ground having been specially reserved where the youth and beauty jf the town can indulge in dancing to their hearts' content. The members of tho Committee arc certainly entitled to every assistance in their commendable endeavors to aid the project for the improvement of Clive Square, and as such a work, if properly carried out, will be an advantage and a convenience to persons resident in thu town aud interested in its future welfare, wo trust that the public will show thenapproval of tho scheme, and extend their cordial support to the committee by patronising the fair and making it in every way a successful undertaking.
