The hearing of the first charge against Waring Taylor was continued this morning. Mr. Jonas Arundel, residuary legatee, in his evidence said:—Hearing that something was wrong came up from Dunedin in company with Donald Stowart, solicitor, on May 19th, and called on prisoner, who said ho was very busy at the time, and promised to have an interview later on. As Mr Stewart and I were leaving accused, he called me back, and said " I must ask your forbearance in this matter. Tho fact is _ I have quarrelled with my co-trusteos in Rhodes' estate, who have jumped upon me. I have consequently made use of the shares belonging to May's trust to satisfy the Rhodes' s." He gave me to understand that this had been quite a recent transaction, but said nothing about having sold the shares. In a subsequent interview Taylor repeated the above statement in the presence of Mr Stewart. Accused was committed for trial. Bail was allowedTwo sureties of £1000 each, and himself in £1000. Thero are ten further charges pending.
