The half-crown stand on the racecourse was destroyed by lire yesterday morning, and the shilling stand had a very narrow escape. Somo workmen had left a fire in a stove, and it is believed the South-west gale blew the embers on to a quantity of inflammable material lying about. A fire broke out last night at. half past eleven by which the stables of Mr Peacock and Geavev, Zealandia Butchery, were destroyed with a quantity of oats,' &c. Five horses werfc saved through the presence of mind by a passer by who perceiving the fire at once led tho animals out. Tho loss is estimated at £100 and was uninsured. ■ .-• - ;;.'•. ... '..."...
At 10.20 this morning a fire was discovered in the loft of the Clarendon Hotel, a very old hostelry, it was soon extinguished. Tho damage was found trifling,
