Ihursday. The House mot at 2.30 p.m. Replying , to questions the Government said they intended to have the Governor , !? I speech on the defence of the colony printed, with a view of distribution amongst the public libraries of the colony ; the Minister of Public "Works said it was the wish of the Public Works Department to consider the advisability of using- red and white pine creosoted sleepers instead of imported ones ; the Postmaster-General, in reply to Mr Beetham, said the Government considered as the inhabitants of Pangdale, "Whareama, were few they would establish a private telephone wire for themselves; with regard to the establishment of a telephone station at Drcyerton post office, IVuirarapa, as soon as the construction of the railway line proceeded a little further an office would be opened. Mr Stout moved the second reading , of the Wellington College Reserves Confirmation Bill. Mr Seddon moved for the bill to he road that day six months. The discussion stopped at the 5.30 adjournment. The House resumed at 7.30. The second reading of the South Island Native Reserves Act Amendment Bill was adjourned. Sir George Grey moved the second reading of the Printers' and Newspaper Act Amendment Bill, which was carried. The Bill was committed and reported without amendments ; read a third time, and passed. Sir George Grey moved the second reading of the Gold Duty Reduction Bill. The Premier hoped that thchon. gentleman would withdraw the bill, if this suggestion was not adopted, the Government would have to oppose the measure. The Government had alreadj- promised to frame a bill during the recess, and ivill bring it down next session. After some discussion the motion was withdrawn. The Cruelty to Animals Act Amendment Bill was road a second time, Armed Constabulary Act Amendment Bill was read a second time, and ordered to bo committed on Tuesday next. The House rose at 12.10 a.m.
