HOKITIKA MINING NEWS.
The Prince of Wales Company is steadily thriving, and every advantage is being taken of the limited supply of water _at command. This company, in connection with ono or tAvo others, is arranging with Mills and Co., of Christchurch, to light their mines with their electric light. The Mont dOr Company is putting through an enormous quantity of dirt, and another good washing may be confidently anticipated. This company's bead race extension will in probability be complete within two months. The William Tell still continues the centre of attraction, and the progress of tho Avorks carried on under the management of Mr Thomas Foster is eagerly watched by everybody. The reef is now exposed for nearly a hundred feet, shoAving gold freely and exceptionally rich patches hero and there. A winso has been sunk thirteen feet, but the surface water has rendered it imperative to bring up a tail-race before tho sinking can be continued. It will tako at least a fortnight to accomplish this, and in a foAv days tho manager expects to meet tho hanging Avail, and then a fair approximation can be made as to tho average yield, of the stone, and steps bo taken for the erection of a battery of sufficient power to meet its requirements. Tho All Nations Company find the tunnel through tho William Tell to their own ground very hard driving ; they have cut through ono reef and one or two small leaders.
Tho Humphreys Gully section No. 1 tunnel (outlet end) driving in good hard gravel. Section No. 2 "(inlet end), contractor timbering and taking up bottom, and making preparations for continuing drive. Tenders have been called for a branch tunnel to connect tho race with Clark's lease, and other works getting on well.
