A fashionably-dressed young man named Arthur Collingc, recently from Sydney, was arrested yesterday on four charges of larceny, one being that of a carpet from the Hobson Hotel, Avhere ho had been a boarder. Tho property taken is valued at about £100. A man named Jacob Hansen has been arrested on the charge of attempting to murder John Constantino, at Wamui. He is a German, and is believed to be a dangerous lunatic. Dunedin, This day. William Sims, the man avlio was imprisoned some time ago for defrauding by means of the "match-box" trick, made his appearance at the Police Court yesterday on a charge of gambling in a railway carriage by performing the "three card" manoeuvre. The evidence went to slioav that he had induced a young- man to make tAvo bets, whereby lie Avas victimised to the extent of £7. Counsel for tho accused contended that the three card trick Avas simply a betting game and not illegal. The R.M. reserved judgment.
