Liberal or conservative, has—or ought to have at Heart—our Harbour Bill" and if we go further in our admiration, and honestly express our Pleasure at the efforts of our Local member (with whom we differ on many Political questions, and I fear always ■will differ from) in the Hard up-hill fight he and our other Hawko's Bay Members, have had. and still have—against Bigoted prejudice, in advocating this much desired measure. Shall we, for doing this— be termed Turncoats—Political weathercocks,—but I think not. I have a better, a far better opinion of our Political opponents than to think, that they imagine we stultfy ourselves By an exercise of that feeling (i car to —and inherent in every Briton— admiration, for Honesty of purpose no matter where, or in whom found. Your too too happy allusion also That the Napier Liberal Association, "kept another good man Mr John Shechan [your Soapsuds Gully hero remember), out of the house" V is exactly on a par. with Some too truthful utterances of yours inrespect to certain resolutions also passed by this red rag (to you) of an association—Mr John Sheehau stood for Napier, bet me. some Time in June or July last past, the Napier Liberal Reform Association came into existence on the 12th of August, nearly four weeks after tho elections. Savcc— one word and I've done, we (the Association) do not intend to turn our coats—the weather is too changeable at present, and I do not think that we arc going to Support Mr Ormond cither at the next election, quite immaterial you will say. Just so. we won't argue that point out—but If we can help Mr Ormond in any way whatever, whilst he is our member —in any matter of Local or public interest. he shall have that help right loyally, you will please publish The whole of this letter. John P. Ward, Hon. Sec. iV. L. JR. A. Napier, October 3, 1884. [We should have consulted Mr Ward's •(best interests, perhaps, by consigning the above communication to tho waste-paper basket; but, as he desires that the whole of his letter should be published, it appears above exactly as it reached us.—Ed., D.T.]
