NOTICE is hereby given that it is the intention of the Maraekakaho Road Board to take certain lands hereinafter particularly described for the purpose of constructing a road, and all persons affected arc hereby requested to set forth in writing any well-grounded objections to the extension of such work, or the taking of such lands, and to send such writing within forty days from the date of publication hereof to the Chairman of tho Maraekakaho Road Board. Cross THIS Company is projected for the purpose of acquiring the well-known Theatre Royal, now and for tho last six years so successfully conducted by Messrs Swan and Ashton, who agree to sell to tho Provisional Directors all tho Buildings and Leasehold Land, Fittings, Fixtures, Furniture, Stage Properties, Scenery, Machinery, &c, &c, now owned by them, for the sum of £3000. It is thought by the Promoters that tho time has now arrived when increased accommodation is requisite, and with that view- they have had plans prepared giving 1G feet extra widtli to tho body of tho Theatre. The Dress Circle will be advanced 22 feet nearer the stng-e, and -vvill be provided with the newest and most comfortable of upholstery and seating accommodation, notably tho patent iron-framed Chairs now in fashion in tho latest built Opera Houses and Theatres. There will be four Private Boxes connecting the Circle with the Proscenium. The Stage will have an additional 10 feet in depth, with a Proscenium openingof 27 feet, and a proportional increase in height. When those alterations arc completed the building will accommodate without any crowding an audience of upwards of 1200 persons, thus ranking as one of tho largest in New Zealand, and the revenue receivable from letting- will be increased in proportion. The largest companies will also be induced to perform in this town which they now pass by, and in con junction with tho contemplated improved shipping facilities will insuro the highest talent visiting what is admitted to bo tho best show town in the colony for its size. The ventilation of the house and its lighting are to be made a special feature of the improvements, as also the extra exits and staircases supplied in case of an alarm of fire. Separate cloak and retiring rooms for Ladies and Gentlemen are a part of tho scheme. To facilitate the more frequent use of the building for Fancy Fairs, Matinees, Horticultural aud Poultry, &c, Shows, more windows wiil be provided, and a project will be submitted for the appproval of tho Directors to light tho whole house by Electricity in the latest and most inexpensive manner, thus offering tho boon of effective lighting unaccompanied by oppressive heat in the summer months. Tho acoustic properties of the Theatre have not been overlooked, as the proposed plan supplies a new dome roof, which will materially add to the pleasure of the patrons of the entertainments. It is for the purpose of carrying out these desirable alterations that; (lie Company has been projected, and as testing tho public fooling on Ihe subject a hasty canvass for support, lias been made resulting in upwards of £3500 worth of shares being taken up, thus rendering the successful floating of the Company a certainty.
