Cross THIS Company is projected for the purpose of acquiring the well-known Theatre Royal, now and for the last six years so successfully conducted by Messrs Swan and Ashton, who agree to sell to the Provisional Directors all the Buildings and Leasehold Land, Fittings, Fixtures, Furniture, Stage Properties, Scenery, Machinery, &c, &c, now owned by them, for the sum of £3000. It is thought by the Promoters that the time has now arrived when increased accommodation is requisite, and with that view they have had plans prepared giving 1G feet extra width to the body of the Theatre. The Dress Circle will be advanced 22 feet nearer the stage, and will be provided with the newest and most comfortablo of upholstery and seating accommodation, notably the patent iron-framed Chairs now in fashion in the latest built Opera Houses and Theatres. There will be four Private Boxes connecting the Circle with the Pros-y! cenium. The Stage will have an additional 10 feet in depth, Avitha Proscenium opening of 27 feet, and a proportional increase in height. When these alterations are completed the building will accommodate without any crowding an audience of upwards of 1200 persons, thus ranking as one of the largest in New Zealand, and the revenue receivable from letting will bo increased in proportion. • The largest companies will also be induced to perform in this town which they now pass by, and in conjunction with the contemplated improved shipping facilities will insuro the highest talent visiting what is admitted to . be the best show town in the colony for its size. The ventilation of the house and its lighting are to be made a special feature of the improvements, as also the extra exits and staircases supplied in case of an alarm of lire. cloak and retiring rooms for Ladies and Gentlemen are a part of the scheme. To facilitate the more frequent use of the building for Fancy Fairs, Matinees, Horticultural and Poultiy, &c, Shows, more windows wiil bo provided, and a project will be submitted for the appproval of the Directors to light the whole liouse by Electricity in the latest and most inexpensive manner, thus offering the boon of effective lighting-unaccompanied by oppressive heat in the summer months. , The acoustic properties of the Theatre have not been overlooked, as the i)roposed plan supplies a now dome roof, which will materially add to the pleasure of the patrons of the entertainments. It is for the purpose of carrying out these desirable alterations that the Company has been projected, and as testing the public feeling on the subject a hasty canvass for support has been made resulting in upwards of £3500 worth of shares being taken up, thus rendering the successful floating of the Company a certainty. The names already on the Provisional Directorate and the share list are a guarantee for the soundness of the undertaking. Consultation. WILL /CLOSE QHORTLY ILL \JLOSE SHORTLY WILL CLOSE SHORTLY.
