Tho Colonial Office authorities fear that a conflict may take place between tho German consular authorities, on the islands of New Britain and New Ireland, and tho British, should the latter make any attempt to establish a protectorate over those islands. The St. James' Gazette, in an article on New Zealand finance, states that the borrowing policy of the colony is alarming. September 24. Lord Rosebcry, while out riding to-day, was thrown from his horse, and broke his collar-bone. Some of M. Ferry's supporters propose that the recidivistes be sent only to Cayenne aud the French settlements iv Senegal. Information from Capetown states that the Boers have occupied the capital of Stellaland, and that the chief Moutsioa had surrendered.
