ARRIVALS. September 23—Alert, fore-and-aft schooner, from Oamaru. DEPARTURES. September 22—Thomas Russell, s.s., for Gisborne. 22—Southern Cross, s.s., for "Wellington. Passengers—Dr. and Mrs. Menziea and Mr. D. Levi. 23—Manaia, p.s., for "Wairoa, with several passengers. — +- The sa. Thomas Russell, Oapt. C. Helander, steamed for Poverty Bay at 4.20 p.m. yesterday. She is expected to arrive hero again to-morrow, and on Thursday is announced to steam for Auckland direct, with a cargo of stock. The fore-and-aft schooner Alert, Capt. J. Hay, from Oamaru, arrived here this morning, and is now alongside the breastwork discharging her cargo of oats and flour, the major part of which is for Messrs John Orr and F. Fulton. The Alert's passage up the coast has occupied ten days, three out of which she lay in Lyttelton windbound. The Union Company'ss.s. Southern Cross, Capt. Hutchinsou, wfvs taken out into the roadstead at 4.45 p.m. yesterday, but waited in the bay for passengers until 9 p.m., when she steamed for Wellington. The p.s. Manaia, Capt. W. C. Baxter, got away for "Wairoa at an early hour this morning, aud arrived at her destination at 6 a.m. The s.s. Kiwi is reported as having left Castle Point at G p.m. yesterday, but has not yet put in an appearance here. She is not now expected till to-morrow morning. The s.s. Go-Ahead is telegraphed as having left Wellington at 5 o'clock last night for the coast and Napier, and is due here to-night. She is announced to steam on her return voyage at o p.m. to-morrow. Tho UniorfCompany's launch Boojum is on tho hard in the Iron Pot having her bottom cleaned and painted. A full-rigged ship was beating up the bay when our report left the Spit, which will probably prove to bo tho N.Z. Shipping Company's Wanganui, which loft Auckland on Saturday last. Considerable anxiety is felt for the safety of the Tauranga, a .schooner of CI tons, which left this port for the South Sea Islands on June 10th (104 days out), and has not since been heard of. The Tauranga was commanded by her owner, Capt. James Duncan, and had a crew of iive. Mrs Duncan was on board.
