Monday. In declining to co-operate with Mr Service in urging the Imperial Government to accelerate the annexation of New Guinea, Mr Stuart stated that ho was actuated principally by a desire to look upon tho question in a broad light, and adopt that line of action by which tho colonies would be most likely to accomplish the object they had at heart. Ho was most desirous that this should be done effectively but with the least embarrassment possible to tho interests of the whole Empire. The conference of sanitary authorities now holding its sittings here has pasyud a resolution expressing agreement with the principle of compulsory vaccination. (Received September 23, 0.55 a.m.) Arrangements have been completed for sculling matches between Cliil'ord and Hanlan on February 7, between Clifford and Beach on February 28, and between Hanlan and Beach on March 28. Tho final match between Clifford and Hanlan, if victorious, will take place on April IS. (Received September 23, 12.-10 p.m.) This day. A patient named Hammond has died of small-pox, but the others at the quarantine station are progressing favorably. (Received September 23, 2.20 p.m.)
