An ordinary meeting of the H.B. Philosophical Institute will be held in thesocicty's room at the Atheineum at 7.30 to-night. Tho Wanderer's Bieyclc Club meet for the election of officers at the Albion Hotel at 8 o'clock to-night. The third term of tho Boys' and Girls' High Schools commences to-morrow. Mr Lyndon holds a sale cf drapery, clothing, furniture, &c, at his auction mart at 11 a.m. to-morrow.
Nominations of candidates for tho Hastings Town Board must be made at the office of the Board on or before noon tomorrow.
A popular lecture will be given in Trinity Church school-room to-morrow evening, the subject being "Yorkshire Evangelists." Shareholders of the Southern Cross Petroleum Company are informed that the 42nd call of 3d per share is due and payable at the company's office in Cbristchurch on Wednesday.
The Napier Amateur Dramatic Clubgive a performance in the Town Hall, Hastings, on Friday evening. Mr George Scarfe has withdrawn from the contest for the North Ward in favor of Mr R. G. Graham.
James Alexander Cunningham, sheepfarmer, has been adjudged a bankrupt, and the Deputy Assignee summons a meeting of creditors for Monday, 22ndinstant. Mr Sheath, solicitor, has taken rooms in Mr Algar's office, Tennyson street. A pair of "black beard" pigeons has been lost, and finder will be rewarded on returning same to Mr J. James. Mr T. li. Cooper, architect, invites tenders for raising ihe buildings in Hastings street occupied by Mr Jacobs, Mr Prebble, and Mrs Kemp. Mr Allan McLean's thoroughbred horses Vasco di Gama, Merlin, and Gladiator, the Cartyon pony Tarn O'Shanter, tho Exmoor pony Commodore Nutt, and the Clydesdale Lord Elcho stand this season at Duart, Havolock.
Mr Lamb, architect, invites tenders for gas piping and fittings for the new Municipal offices. Mr li. A. Cornford issues an address to the ratepayers of the Central Ward. A bay gelding has been impounded at Taradale, and, if not redeemed, will be sold on tho 22nd instant. Mr Jacobs has a variety of lawn tennis, cricketing, and fishing material for this season. Mr W. B. Harding, Waipawa, has properties at Hastings, Kaikora, Woodville, and Waipawa for sale or lease, also station properties. Tenders are invited for the erection of a building in Tennyson street. The Bon Marche has an entirely new and clean stock of juvenile clothing. A silver whistle from a ladies' riding whip has been lost, and finder will be rewarded on leaving same at Pacific Hotel, Hastings. The trotting stallion Newland's Hambletonian commences his season at Hastings on the 15th instant. Pedigree, testimonials, and full particulars in advertisement. Messrs Blythe and Co. quote prices for new prints. Mr Prebble has new season's fruit, Picton bloaters, and fresh oysters. A. W. L. Cottrcll has novelties in tortoiseshell and pearl hair ornaments, also wigs and hair work in tho ladies room of the City Saloon, next Criterion Hotel. The pedigree and other particulars of the thoroughbred horse Piscatorious, which Stan els this season at Taradale, are published. Persons arc requested to try Walters' celebrated guinea trousers and four guinea suits ; strong and solid workmanship ; made by the best tailors in town ; great variety of tweed.
