THE AUSTRALIANS AT GRAVESEND.
(Received August 29, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON. August 28. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day at Gravcsend against an eleven representing the South of England, composed as follows :—Lord Harris (captain), Messrs M. C. Kernp, H. V. Page, Christophcrsou, A. P. Lucas, W. "W. Read, W. E. Roller, Jesse Hide, G. Wootton, O'Brien, and Humphreys. Tho Avcathcr was fine, and there Avas a good attendance of spectators. Tho Australians Avent in first, and remained at the Avickets the Avhole day, most of tho batsmen making an excellent defence and displaying grand cricket. Tho hiirhest scorers were Banncrmanbowlcd 44, McDonnell caught 06, Murdoch boAvled 59, Giffen caught 32, and Blackham not out out 55. When the stumps Avere drcnvn the Australian's score stood at 354 with nine Avickets doAvn. (Received August 30, 1.30 p.m.) August 29. The shipment of frozen mutton by the steamship Garonne from Australia arrived in good condition.
