EGYPT BANKRUPT.
THE FRANCO-CHINESE WAR,
LONDON. August 27. The Standard mentions that Egypt has declared itself bankrupt. Mr Gladstone has decided to address a public meeting at Edinburgh on Saturday. It is reported that the Mingan forts at Foochow were silenced by the heavy fire of the French gun boats, and also that an attack on Woosung is expcctecL It is reported in Shanghai that the French have killed eighty thousand Chinese in Tonquin, losing several thousand them86 Mr J Cashel Hoey,, C.M.G., Secretary to the Agent-General for Victoria, will attend the Postal Conference at Lisbon.
