THE COLONIAL EXHIBITION OF 1886. LONDON WHEAT MARKET DEPRESSED. INVINCIBLES IN SOUTH AMERICA. WRECK 01 A FRENCH TROOPSHIP. LONDON. August 23. The catalogue of tho present avool sales comprises 115,861 bales, of Avhich-7000 have been withdrawn. The competition among foreign buyers is more marked than hitherto. Good combing merinos and erossbreds have increased a half penny over the closing rates
of last sales. Faulty merinos and inferior cross-breds lnove a downward tendency. The circular issued by the Prince of Walrs to Colonial Governors urges the latter to have a most complete representation of the colonies at the exhibition in ]SBG.
Business in Australian wheat cargoes is very depressed, and the average value is 375. Owing to the dullness in trade several ships which have recently arrived are ordered to proceed to foreign ports. Sir Samuel Baker predicts that the expedition to relieve General Gordon by way of the river Nile will be a failure. August 21 • Several of the Invincibles Avho were expelled from the colonies some little time ago are living at Banda-Oriental (Lruquay), South America. The French troopship Arcyaon has been totally wrecked at Cape Guardaf vi. All on board Arare rescued. # The New Zealand Land Corporation will pay their creditors in full, also returning £5 on paid-up shares. Sir Stafford Northcoto and Lord Carnarvon have addressed over one hundred thousand Tories at Wakefield. It is reported that the French have captured the Chinese fleet, and also that two boats belonging to the French were taken by the Chinese.
