ST. JOHN'S CHURCH CHOIR.

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] y lnj —Allow me to ask permission to refer to tho above subject once more. I merely Avish to remove a false impression under which your correspondents "Churchman" and " Music " appear to labor. The present effort for the improvement of the choir oaves its origin to the desire of certain members of the congregation that a choir master should be appointed for the instruction of the boys. Your correspondents were apparently not consulted on the subject, and hence their hostility to the movement. A choir master in most churches means a salaried officer. Here there are no funds for such an appointment ; but, as I understand, one of the members of the congregation, by special request, has most kindly undertaken the duties of that position. As Aye all know, for a long time past, the members of choir did just as they liked, and both practices and'church services' were neglected as pleasure, indifference, or idleness dictated. The adults—not all, but a good many—wero in this i-espect no better than the boj-s, and Avith such an example, and in the abseifcee of all discipline, it Avas no Avonder that the boys learned little or nothing. Tho best of the boys have now come back, for they knOAV that under a different state of things they may hope to do credit to themselves and to the-church as choristers.—l am, kc, Peavholder.
