FISHING LICENSES.
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir, —I should like to occupy a small space in your columns to ascertain from anyone Avhat protection the fishing license is to any fisherman in the province of HaAA'ke's Bay. I am a licensed fisherman myself, and the greatest opposition I have to contend with is cockles and other shell fish, , which are being sold daily in great quantities by men Avho evade the license, because > cockles and such like are not caught Avith a net. Do you consider it fair or just that the market should be monopolized by men Avho pay no license? There aro other instances of men fishing Avith nets and evading- tho license, because there is no one avlio takes the trouble to investigate the matter as to avlio is licensed and avlio is not. Hoping some measures may be taken on behalf of the licensed fishermen.—l am &c, Octopus. Western Spit, August 21, ISB4.
