The cricket match at Nottingham Avas resumed to-day. Tho Australians obtained an additional 42 for the remaining two wickets, aud the first innings closed for 265. Spofforth scored 53 (bowled). Tho fielding of tho home team throughout was excellent, and some splendid catches were made at the close of the day's play. The Nottingham men, in their first innings, had scored 218 Avith four Avickets down, of Avhich Barnes contributed 30 (boAvled), Flowers 09 (caught), and Gunn (not out) 54.

A telegram has just been received from Fooclioav announcing that the French fleet opened a bombardment upon the Chinese arsenal near that town at 2 p.m. to-day.

(Received August 25, 0.35 a.m.) The cricket match Australians versus Nottingham was resumed and concluded to-day in the presence of a very large attendance of spectators. There was fine weather. The wicket Avas lively. The Home team, Avith four Avickets doAvn for 2IS, continued their first innings, Avhich closed for a total of 273. The highest scorers to-day wcro Gunn bowled 68, and Selby lbAv 37. The visitors then went in for their second innings, and were all put out for 141. Tho principal scorers Avero M'Donnell boAvled 28, Giffen bowled 25, Bonnor caught 25, and Blackham caught 16. The Home team, requiring 134 runs to win the match, then went in for a second time, but had only scored 15 runs, with one Avickct do-»vn, when the stumps were drawn for the day. The match Avas therefore drawn in favor of the Home team, avlio had 0 wickets to fall and 119 runs to make.

The latest telegrams to hand regarding the course of events in connection Avith tho Franco-Chinese Avar give the following intelligence :—Li Fong Pao, tho Chinese Minister, left Paris last night. Three Russian ironclads have been despatched to reinforce the Russian fleet now cruising off the Chinese coast. The Governors of Kwangsi and Yuinan have been ordered to proceed to Tonquin. A telegram despatched from Fooclioav at 10 p.m. states that Admiral Courbct bombarded the Chinese arsenal near that toAvn for three hours, and entirely destroyed it, together Avith seven Chinese gunboats, Avhich Avere sunk by the fire of tho French v ships. Two other gunboats escaped. The European residents at Fooclioav have not been molested, although great excitement prevails amongst the native population.
