Tho gift auction in aid of the Methodist Free Church will commence in the shop next the Loan and Mercantile Company's oHico. Hastings street, at 8 o'clock to-night. The members of Court Sir Charles Napier, A.0.F., are requested to attend at the Spit at 2 p.m. to-morrow to attend tho funeral of late wife of Bro. Cotton. The members of the Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 5, are also requested to attend the funeral. Mr. Lyndon will. sell the whole of the furniture and effects of the late J. M. Girdlestono by auction on Thursday next. An ordinary meeting of the H.B. Philosophical Institute is convened for Monday I evening, 11th instant. The Colonial Bank dividend for the halfyear ended 30th June last will bo payable to shareholders on thoHawke's Bay register afc the Napier branch on the 11th instant. Mr 0. O. F. Hansen, of Napier, has applied to the Waste Lands Board to transfer his interests in section 26, Block XIII., Tahoraite survey district, to Mr S. Hamelinjf, of Waipawa. The Napier Poultry and Canary Association's show will be held on the 28th and 29th instant, entries closing on the 21st. Mr. C. I-I. Steward, violinist and teacher of music, has removed to the Star Hotel, Emerson street. The prospectus of a new evening newspaper company will bo found in another column. Mr. T. Waterworth invites tenders for 25 pairs of boots for the Napier Fire Brigade. Mr Chissell has received to-day fresh oysters, fruit, and vegetables. Mr R. H. Eobinson, of the Cheap Drapery Shop, requests that all overdue accounts be paid by the 24th instant. Mr A. W. L. Cottrell received a consignment of Auckland manufactured cigars per Southern Cross to-day. Accounts owing to Mr W. Stock must bo paid at once, to enable him to pay 20s in the £1. To prevent contagion from small-pox the public are recommended to use Saunders, Gilbcrd and Co.'s pure carbolic soap. Messrs Hardy and Sidey have received a fresh shipment'of garden and flowor seeds. Being Now Zealand grown can bo guaranteed good. Persons are requested to" try Walters' celebrated guinea trousers and four guinea suits ; strong and solid workmanship ; made by the Lest Tailors in town ; great variety of tweed.
