A BAILIFF'S POWER.
Dunedin, This day.
In the District Court yesterday a case was brought against a constable for wrongful distraint, and judgment was given against him. The point involved- was whether a bailiff had poAver to delegate his authority to execute a distress Avarrant. Judge Ward held that the words " and other peace officers" and the delivery of the warrant were not sufficient to constitute the constable an acting bailiff, as the name must appear in the warrant,
