THE ANGLO-FRENCH CONVENTION ON THE EGYPTIAN QUESTION.
PRINCE BISMARCK ON THE ENGLISH POLICY IN THE PACIFIC. LONDON. June 24. In the French Chambers, during a discussion on the Egyptian question, M. Ferry spoko in favor of England's lofty and disinterested policy, but the Chamber dissented from his statements. The Standard doubts ■whether the agreement between England and France will escape .shipwreck. The Times complains that England concedes too much, and receives nothing in return. The Press generally complain of the want of knowledge shown in the financial proposals. It is probable that the Opposition in Parliament will bring down a vote of censure on the Government after the conclusion of the - Conference. Loogoss has been ceded to Abyssinia. The German Reichstag is unlikely to pass tho proposed subsidy for a German mail service to Australia. Prince Bismarck states that tho grasping policy of the English colonists in the Pacific is offensive and imitating to Germany. Earl Granville states that the English Government have no claims on Angra Pequena. A fresh loan for the Melbourne Harbor Trust will bo issued early in July. The House of Lords appear inclined to insist on unlimited liability of shareholders in the new Act for renewal of the charter of the South Australian Bank. By the terms of the Anglo-French Convention on the Egyptian question, France engages not to occupy Egypt without the consent of England, and abandons its claim for the revival of the system of dual control. The agreement to neutralise the Suez Canal is based upon Lord Granville's circular of January, ISB3. Mr Gladstone has stated that the agreement is entirely contingent upon the results of the projected Conference, but that if Parliament rejects it the Government will resign. He also stated that the question of the £5,000,000 Egyptian loan ■will not be mentioned until sanctioned by the Conference.
