The racecourse is Avell attended, about 2500 people being present. The Avcather is very fine overhead, but the course heavy at the back. A good start wasT effected for tho Maiden Steeplechase, Homo Rule going aAyay Avith tho lead. King Arthur, Coacher, and Assegai at' once Avent to the front, coming towards the stand in that order. At tho jump in front King Arthur fell, which caused Abolition to baulk. Coacher Avas first over, folloAved by Assegai. At tho next jump King Arthur came doiA-n, and took no further part in the race. At tho stone Avail before tho straight Avas entered Assegai took the lead followed by Coacher'. A splendid race up the straight ensued, first ono leading, and then the other, and after a magnificent finish it resulted in a dead heat between Assegai and Coacher, Skylark, Avho Avas distanced, being third. The insido dividend on Assegai Avas£s 12s, andon Coacher £3 12s; outside totalisator, Coacher £4 14s, and Assegai £3145. Betting at the start Avas 5 to 2 against KingArthur, 5 to 1 against Coacher, 6 to 1 against Assegai, 8 and 10 to 1 against the others.
