More than 500 new names have been added to the Auckland City rolls during the kit two days in view of the approaching elections. . ~ Haweea, This day. : ' A requisition is being signed here asking Sir J. Vogel to contest the Egmont seat with Major Atkinson at the coming elee-. tion. Sir George Grey has expressed a desire to address "the electors after liis visit to Auckland. Reef-OX, This day. • Election matters arc beginning to agitato the public mind here. Mr Reeve. Las completed a canvs.s of the Gi,.y di-trict already, and Mr M'Lean, of Wellington, announces that he is also on the warpath. Mr Monteith, solicitor, ex-manager of the National Bank here, is also' in the field, and other local names are mentioned. There is a strong current of feeling in favOr of a local man, and this will probably gather strength as time wears on. CnaiSTcnußCH, This day. Sir J. Vogel has definitely decided to stand for Christchurch North, and has declined all othsr requests. Mr Perryman opposes Mr 0' Callaghan for Lincoln. Mr Jcbson, junior, of the Working Men's Political Association, opposes Mr Garrick for St. Albans. Dunedin, This day. Those electors who were getting up a requisition to Sir Julius Vogel to contest Dunedin Central have decided not to proceed further, as he is announced for Christchurch North. The Good Templars deny that thoy have pressed Mr M. W. Green to turn to Dunedin South. The Grand Secretary writes to the papers to say that they will support Mr Green, even against Mr Stout, for Dunedin East. Mr Driver and Mr J. M'Donald are announced for ißruce, aud the Hon. T. Dick for Dunedin West.
