The cricket match, Australians y. Lancashire, Avas resumed to-day at Manchester in fine Aveather and before an enormous attendance of spectators. The local team, with five wickets down for 109, continued their first innings, which after an excellent display of batting on the part of Barlow and Mr H. B. Steele, closed for a total of 195, or 21 ahead of the Australians. The highest scorers for the county Averc Barlow 28, Briggs 40, and Steele 41. The fielding of the-visitors ay.is excellent, and alone prevented their opponent's score being much larger than it was. After the usual interval the Australians went iv for their second innings, and a splendid display of batting ensued, Avith the result that Avlien time Avas called for the day 202 runs had been put together for the loss of only three wickets. The cricket match, Australians versus Lancashire, was continued to-day at Manchester. There was again a large attendance of spectators, although heavy ram fell at intervals during the day, and owing to the inclemency of the weather play was stopped and the match drawn. The Australians, Avith a score of .202 runs, continued their second innings, and put together a total for eight wickets of 315 before play ceased. The highest scorers were Giffen, avlio was not out on the jn-evious day, with 113. Spofforth was not out with 24. In the House of Commons last night the Government Bill announced by Mr Childers in his Budget statement for the conversion of consols from 3 per cent, to 2J Avas read a second time. Sir Gavin Duffy, Avho was recently credited Avith an attempt to revive the Young Ireland party, has disclaimed any intention on his part to re-enter political life - • _•, i. It is reported on good authority that an agreement has been arrived at by Lord Granville and M. Waddington regarding the deportation of recidivistes to New Caledonia.
